The Florida Legislature adopted, and the governor signed into law, effective July 1, 2021, an amendment to F.S. 162.21 and F.S. 162.0415, that prohibits a code inspector from initiating an investigation of a potential violation by way of an anonymous complaint. To investigate, complainant must have provided the complainant's name and address with the complaint to the "governing body" before an investigation occurs. The only exception is if there is reason for the investigator to believe a present and imminent threat to the public health, safety and welfare or imminent destruction of habitat or sensitive resources has or is occurring. If you believe this is a present and imminent threat to the public health, safety and welfare or imminent destruction of habitat or sensitive resources has or is occurring call the Code Office at (954) 924-6810 and someone will assist you filing your complaint.
