The project consists of public improvements in the public realm – areas adjoining the roadway in the public rights-of-way of three (3) parallel East/West streets in the southeast corner of the City. The 3 streets are Southeast 13th Street, Southeast 13th Terrace, and Southeast 14th Street, between North/South Southeast 2nd Avenue and South Federal Highway.
These improvements include removal and replacement of sidewalks, removal and replacement of impervious driveway aprons with permeable pavers, handicap ramps, stop and street signage. These improvements are designed to, among other goals, alleviate blighting conditions, improve the access to the public transportation provided along South Federal Highway for the students attending Olsen Middle School, and address storm water and flooding issues along the right-of-way.
These three streets are a major pathway for Olsen Middle School students to and from School from South Federal Highway. The overall look and feel of the streets detract from the quality of the neighborhood. Improvement of the sidewalks, driveway aprons, signage, etc. will make it a much safer walking experience and will induce the adjoining property owners to invest in the improvement of their private property.
